On this day, we celebrated Oliver’s first birthday with my parents. They brought some wonderful gifts for Oliver and it was of course, another great evening. Oliver has really taken to his Grandpaw, as you will see in these photos and some upcoming posts.

Today was November 30th, Oliver’s first official birthday. We celebrated at home with some cake that Mum made. It was delicious, and looked great, despite what she may think.

Oliver was still a little under the weather but he was quite happy to have his picture taken while he was enjoying his cake. He even hammed it up a bit for the camera, as you’ll see towards the bottom of this post.

We had the best intentions. Everything was in order: thirty plus people coming to our house; loot bags were done and ready; cake was made; outfits were picked out. Everything you do to prepare for your son’s first birthday party.

Then, Oliver had a bad day. He wasn’t himself and something was clearly wrong. Dana takes him to the doctor’s to find out he has his first ear infection. We have to make a tough decision and cancel the party. We’re heartbroken but Oliver is in no condition to party.

So to have some sort of celebration, we have Dana’s parents, her sister, brother-in-law and their daughter over for some cake and gift opening. As you’ll see in the pictures below, Oliver is clearly not himself. But we had a nice time nonetheless.
