Another Father’s Day has come and gone. Once again, the Ruprecht’s and the Connell’s got together in Port Severn at Mom & Dad Ruprecht’s place to celebrate Father’s Day. We spent a lot of the day out on the water enjoying the warm summer air. Oliver and Julia had a blast together as usual. The evening was capped off with a great dinner outside on the back lawn. A nice way to spent a day, if I do say so myself.

Another Christmas morning was upon us and Oliver didn’t get up until later in the morning. Not sure if he just didn’t understand we were going to open presents or if sleep was more important to him. Nonetheless, we were downstairs and opening presents at a decent hour, none of this 5am stuff that some families seem to go through.

What were weren’t expecting was for Oliver to not want to open any presents! He saw his stocking that was filled with goodies from Santa and he opened that. He got 4 or 5 toy cars in it from the movie Cars and that is all he wanted to play with. It even got to the point where Dana and I had opened most of our gifts and Oliver still didn’t want to open any more of his. It was quite humourous as you can see from the video below. That’s Oliver saying: “No Tank You” when we were asking him if he wanted to open another present.

Anyways, once our Christmas morning was all done, were were off to Dana’s Mom and Dad’s for Christmas Day dinner. We were joined by Alison, Arek and Julia. As usual, Oliver had a blast playing with his cousin.

We ate, drank, opened gifts and enjoyed each others company immensely. Christmas time is always such a busy time but when you get to stop and enjoy it for a second, it’s always a lot of fun. I’ve especially enjoyed these last couple of years because there really is nothing like Christmas when you have young kids in the household.

We spent Thanksgiving day at Nana and Grand Dad’s for turkey dinner. Nana makes a mean turkey so this was a happy event for all of us! Auntie Alison, Uncle Arek and cousin Julia were there as well which always makes for a fun time.

We laughed, we ate, we sang and danced and we gorged ourselves on a great feast. We even took a few pictures…LOL! The rest can be found on Flickr here.

Mother’s day every year is a hectic day for us that Connell household. We usually end up trying to cram in as much visiting as possible on this day, which means we are trekking across most of Ontario! This year was no exception as we spent the morning having brunch with Dana’s parents in Woodbridge, and then we headed up to Victoria Harbour to see my parents.

Once again, Oliver was just a doll the entire time – keeping us entertained with his big smiles and wonderful attitude. It can’t be easy for an 18-month old to spend that much time in a car on any given day, but Oliver seems to take it very well. We are very proud of him!

oliver connell | day three hundred & sixty-four

We had the best intentions. Everything was in order: thirty plus people coming to our house; loot bags were done and ready; cake was made; outfits were picked out. Everything you do to prepare for your son’s first birthday party.

Then, Oliver had a bad day. He wasn’t himself and something was clearly wrong. Dana takes him to the doctor’s to find out he has his first ear infection. We have to make a tough decision and cancel the party. We’re heartbroken but Oliver is in no condition to party.

So to have some sort of celebration, we have Dana’s parents, her sister, brother-in-law and their daughter over for some cake and gift opening. As you’ll see in the pictures below, Oliver is clearly not himself. But we had a nice time nonetheless.

Every year, Dana’s Mom’s side of the family gets together for a BBQ in the summer and a Christmas party in the winter. This year was Oliver’s first Family Picnic. He got to meet some of his Aunts, Uncles and Cousins for the first time. It was a blast. We were lucky as we got a freak storm but it didn’t blow in until everyone was leaving.

This years Lacelle Family Picnic was at Bruce’s Mill Conservation Area which has some wonderful picnic(ing) areas. We even rented out the pool for a couple of hours, which allowed us to get Oliver’s feet wet (sort of speak) for the first time.

Father’s Day. A joyous occasion where we get together to celebrate being a Dad. This year was my first with Oliver and I had a great day! We celebrated by having our families over for a BBQ in our new backyard! The weather was wonderful and we enjoyed having a nice meal outside. The bugs weren’t even that bad, which was a blessing considering this summer was actually quite brutal for them.

On Good Friday, we spent the late morning/early afternoon at Ross and Sharon Ruprecht’s, enjoying a wonderful Easter Brunch. All the family was there, happy as could be not to be at school, or work, or whatever we normally do on Fridays. The kids played, the adults ate, and a good time was had by all.

Three words: Oliver’s First Christmas! What a blast we had! We thought the easiest thing to do would be to host both the Connell and the Ruprecht families at our house for Christmas Day dinner. Mom Ruprecht was kind enough to take the pressure off of me and bring the bird for dinner. Oliver, who was only twenty-six days at this point, didn’t really know what hit him. We managed to sneak in a couple portraits, but the rest of the time was for playing, laughing, and enjoying each others company.
