Wow – was Christmas day a lot of fun this year! We had Santa pay us a visit early Christmas morning and he spoiled us rotten. SPOILED. ROTTEN. We had a lot of fun opening all the gifts that were left under our tree. I then got to working on cooking the bird while Oliver played with all his new toys and Dana got the house ready for our guests. We then had both sets of Grand Parents over along with Oliver’s Aunt, Uncle and Cousin for an early afternoon visit and Christmas dinner. We had a fire going for most of the day and it was super cozy in our house, the way it should be over Christmas.

Not a lot of pictures taken but a lot of great memories from a wonderful day.

oliver connell | day one thousand & eighty-seven

For Oliver’s 3rd birthday, Dana and I wanted to redo his bedroom. We knew we had stretched Oliver’s sleeping in a crib for as long as we could. It’s not very often that you hear of toddlers still sleeping in a crib by their third birthday and even though Oliver was still fine with it, we wanted to do something special. We had purchased a frame and headboard the previous month, and we had gotten a new mattress for when the time came to transfer him into a big boy bed. So, the weekend before Oliver’s birthday, we shipped him off to Grandma and Papa’s house so we could make the transformation.

When Oliver came home, he absolutely loved the room and he has transitioned flawlessly into his new bed.

I then went up and spent the day with my Mom and Dad. Since they weren’t going to see Oliver on his actual birthday, we celebrated that day instead. They spoiled him rotten (again) with clothes, matchbox cars, Chuggington trains, a new part of his track, and an awesome dinner and dessert, complete with cupcakes and ice cream. Needless to say, Oliver (and to some extent I) were in heaven!

The photo below is Oliver’s first photo of his Papa. I held the camera for him, he pointed it and pushed the button. I think it’s great!

All in all, we had a great and super productive weekend.

Another Father’s Day has come and gone. Once again, the Ruprecht’s and the Connell’s got together in Port Severn at Mom & Dad Ruprecht’s place to celebrate Father’s Day. We spent a lot of the day out on the water enjoying the warm summer air. Oliver and Julia had a blast together as usual. The evening was capped off with a great dinner outside on the back lawn. A nice way to spent a day, if I do say so myself.

Back in April, Oliver, Dana and I attended Luca’s 2nd birthday party. We haven’t been to many kids parties in a while but this one was a lot of fun! Oliver got to play at an indoor playground, eat some pizza, and of course, had some birthday cake. Luca was a little shy over the attention his birthday cake was bringing him but as you can see from the video below, Oliver had no qualms about stepping in and helping out! LOL!

Superbowl Sunday: the king of all sporting events. Many around the country and the world get together to eat, drink and watch some football. More and more Superbowl Sunday is less about the football game and more about the gathering. I would normally say this is true for our household except The Pittsburgh Steelers were back in the Superbowl again this year. We bleed black and gold around here!

This year Oliver was old enough to understand a bit of what was happening. From the photos below, you can see that Oliver and I have our jerseys – supporting our team. In the video at the bottom, Oliver learned what the refs do when someone scores a touchdown. It’s too cute for words.

A quick thanks to Tigh, Janet, Isabelle and Leigh for spending the evening with us. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves!

Boxing day saw Grandma and Papa come for a visit to celebrate Christmas with us. They arrived in the early afternoon on Boxing Day, stayed for dinner and the night. Oliver loves his Grandma and Papa so much. He enjoys playing with Papa and when he is here, Oliver wants to do pretty much everything with him. And of course when he leaves, we have to field the questions: “where did Papa go?” and “Papa come back?” for a couple of days after the visit. It’s too cute!

Another Christmas morning was upon us and Oliver didn’t get up until later in the morning. Not sure if he just didn’t understand we were going to open presents or if sleep was more important to him. Nonetheless, we were downstairs and opening presents at a decent hour, none of this 5am stuff that some families seem to go through.

What were weren’t expecting was for Oliver to not want to open any presents! He saw his stocking that was filled with goodies from Santa and he opened that. He got 4 or 5 toy cars in it from the movie Cars and that is all he wanted to play with. It even got to the point where Dana and I had opened most of our gifts and Oliver still didn’t want to open any more of his. It was quite humourous as you can see from the video below. That’s Oliver saying: “No Tank You” when we were asking him if he wanted to open another present.

Anyways, once our Christmas morning was all done, were were off to Dana’s Mom and Dad’s for Christmas Day dinner. We were joined by Alison, Arek and Julia. As usual, Oliver had a blast playing with his cousin.

We ate, drank, opened gifts and enjoyed each others company immensely. Christmas time is always such a busy time but when you get to stop and enjoy it for a second, it’s always a lot of fun. I’ve especially enjoyed these last couple of years because there really is nothing like Christmas when you have young kids in the household.

Every year, Dana’s Mom’s side of the family gets together once in the summer for a family picnic and once in the winter for a Christmas party. This year Oliver is at a great age (as you know) for new experiences. So, when Santa paid us a visit at the Christmas party, Oliver just enjoyed himself even more.

The party ever year is always a lot of fun. There is obviously good food and great company, but seeing Oliver simply light up when he saw Santa, well, that was a new experience altogether.

As you can see from the pictures and the video below, we had a great time.

We spent Thanksgiving day at Nana and Grand Dad’s for turkey dinner. Nana makes a mean turkey so this was a happy event for all of us! Auntie Alison, Uncle Arek and cousin Julia were there as well which always makes for a fun time.

We laughed, we ate, we sang and danced and we gorged ourselves on a great feast. We even took a few pictures…LOL! The rest can be found on Flickr here.

Day five hundred & sixty-seven saw us take a quick trip up to Mom & Dad Connell’s for the afternoon to celebrate Father’s Day. We only snapped a couple of photos this day, but they’re quite cute so I thought I would share them. We forgot Oliver’s highchair so we went Old School and had him sitting on the Yellow Pages. LOL! He actually seemed to like it! Gosh he is getting big quick!
