It’s no secret that Oliver loves chocolate. I have no idea where he gets it from (~~Dana~~) but I would aptly call this post of images: “The Many (chocolate) Faces of Oliver.” I think you’ll especially enjoy his “growling” face.

I’m not really a morning person. Never have been and frankly, I doubt I ever will. But something that makes mornings a lot more bearable is having Oliver come up to our room and cuddle with us in bed. When he was younger, we never really brought him into our bed. Honestly, he wasn’t a baby that wanted to be with us. He would feel most comfortable in his crib and would ask to go back there if we tried to bring him in bed with us. But when we converted his room to have a big boy bed, he started waking up in the mornings and coming upstairs to get us. Sometimes he would bring his toys up to play on the bed while Dana and I would try to wake up.

This morning was particularly fun, not because of anything super special, just because Dana was able to capture the feeling of what it’s like to cuddle with my son. NOTHING beats it!

Oliver loves cars. Period. Exclamation Point. Whatever you want to put after that sentence, it applies. We’re not sure where he gets it from because neither Dana nor I share the same drive (no pun intended) for automobiles. I mean, we like them but we don’t LOVE them the same way Oliver does. But we do like to please our child. So, with that in mind, we ventured down to the Canadian International Auto Show. We actually had a great time. We got there before it got really busy and we were able to leave just before it got crazy. Oliver got to climb in and out of a lot of fun cars/trucks/Jeeps/etc. and I think he had a good time. We also bumped into our good friends Isabelle and Leigh which was a nice treat. Oliver also got his picture taken on a motorbike; hopefully that will be the last time we see him on one of those!

After the show, we were pretty tired so we came home and do what we always do when we are tired: we made popcorn and watched a movie together on the couch. All in all, it was a great day in the Connell household.

oliver connell | day eleven hundred & sixty-nine

So today was a biggie. Well it was for us at least. Dana took Oliver to her salon (Soho Salon & Spa) to get Oliver’s hair styled for once. Oliver has been getting the nine dollar hair cuts for a while and it was time to see what a professional could do (not that the people who normally cut his hair aren’t professionals but you know what I mean). Dana also had an appointment to get her hair coloured too. Since Oliver has far less hair, he was done first and one of the ladies at the salon gave him some paper and markers to colour with. So Oliver says: “I’m going to write my name” and proceeds to do so! Dana was in complete shock because although we have been working on him looking at his name and recognizing the letters, we haven’t really worked that hard with him actually spelling it out. He can draw an “O” for the first letter of his name but that was about it. Or so we thought. Oliver basically wrote out his name! He forgot the “I” (but really it’s just one stroke, that’s pretty much the easy one….) and his “E” was backwards but other than that – he did pretty great for a three year old!

Oliver and I took another visit to Grandma and Papa’s house – this time to celebrate my birthday. It’s been a great winter to head north because for the most part, the roads have been good and it’s nice to escape to some snow! We haven’t had much down here where we live.

So on this weekend, Oliver and I played outside with Grandma and Papa; enjoyed wonderful meals (my Mom certainly knows how to spoil me with food) and overall just had some fun together. We even played some indoor mini-golf! Oliver’s getting really good with his hand-eye coordination. That’s something I’ll definitely promote more of this summer when we can get outside and do some fun activities.

But for now, we’ll just have to stick to making fun photos

Now I believe last entry I talked about hibernating on the couch in our cozy living room during the winter. Yup – last time we made some goofy faces and snapped some pictures. It was fun. This time, we actually really did document our newest Sunday afternoon ritual. And even though I botched the family portrait of the three of us by overexposing it (I still love it because of all the sun rays in the photo), we had a lot of fun eating popcorn, watching movies and making memories. It’s becoming our favourite Sunday afternoon past-time.

PS: Last time I said that Oliver always just wants to watch Cars 2. Well this time he sat and watched (and I think enjoyed) The Incredibles. He kept picking up the DVD case and looking at all the pictures – I think that was a good sign that maybe we’ll be able to watch some different movies now….Here’s to hoping!

During the winter months here in Canada, it’s not easy to get outside with a little one when it’s so frickin’ cold. Ok, so we’ve been lucky this year and we’ve had a very mild (touch wood) winter. But it doesn’t stop Dana and I from wanting to just hibernate in our warm and cozy living room. It seems that Oliver has picked up some of those traits from us too. There really is nothing better then settling in on a late Sunday afternoon with your favourite movie and favourite people. Now if only we could get Oliver to watch a movie other then Cars 2, we’d be all set. LOL!

We haven’t had much snow this winter and any that has fallen, it’s pretty much disappeared before our eyes. So when New Years Eve came around and we realized there was enough snow on the ground to get out and make Oliver his first snowman, we jumped at the opportunity. In some ways, Oliver has been looking forward to this for months!

Dana and Oliver made this really cool snowman on the front lawn, and then we went to the back yard where we had a bit of a snowball fight. We were teaching Oliver to throw snowballs, probably something we will regret in the coming years…LOL!

Again, we had a fabulous day together. It’s these kinds of days that I will cherish forever and I’m so glad I’ve got the photographs to remind me of how great this day was.
