Wow – was Christmas day a lot of fun this year! We had Santa pay us a visit early Christmas morning and he spoiled us rotten. SPOILED. ROTTEN. We had a lot of fun opening all the gifts that were left under our tree. I then got to working on cooking the bird while Oliver played with all his new toys and Dana got the house ready for our guests. We then had both sets of Grand Parents over along with Oliver’s Aunt, Uncle and Cousin for an early afternoon visit and Christmas dinner. We had a fire going for most of the day and it was super cozy in our house, the way it should be over Christmas.

Not a lot of pictures taken but a lot of great memories from a wonderful day.

Another year has past and another Lacelle family Christmas party is upon us. This year it was a little quieter than previous years, which made it a lot more cozy! Every year, Santa Claus makes a stop in Woodbridge for all the kids. Oliver loves visiting with Santa and this year he brought Oliver a couple new Chuggington Trains. Of course, Oliver thought Santa was bringing him some new cars from Cars 2 but Mum and Daddy knew that Santa was saving those wonderful gifts for Christmas at our house. You’ll see that in an upcoming post.

Today was Bea & Gabe’s birthday celebration. We went 5-pin bowling and then enjoyed some tasty treats upstairs in the party room. I think Oliver really enjoyed his first time bowling but more importantly, I know he enjoyed spending time with his friends, the twins. Oliver talks about them frequently and always has fun playing with them.

Unfortunately, while trying to teach Oliver how to 5-pin bowl, I tweaked my lower back. It kept me from playing hockey for a couple of weeks and caused much ridicule with my hockey buddies. Note to self: If you tweak your back playing 5-pin bowling, don’t tell hockey players that that’s what you did. Tell them something macho and gruff so they think you’re tough, even though you’re not. LOL!

Easter at home is always fun! It’s especially fun with Oliver as he loves to be surprised and of course, he loves his chocolate. The Easter Bunny also brought along a couple of Oliver’s favourite things in life: a sticker book and some die-cast cars inspired by the Pixar movie Cars.

Once we got our chocolate breakfast out of the way, Mom & Dad Ruprecht spent the afternoon and evening with us, enjoying some great food and excellent company. It was a really great day.

Boxing day saw Grandma and Papa come for a visit to celebrate Christmas with us. They arrived in the early afternoon on Boxing Day, stayed for dinner and the night. Oliver loves his Grandma and Papa so much. He enjoys playing with Papa and when he is here, Oliver wants to do pretty much everything with him. And of course when he leaves, we have to field the questions: “where did Papa go?” and “Papa come back?” for a couple of days after the visit. It’s too cute!

Another Christmas morning was upon us and Oliver didn’t get up until later in the morning. Not sure if he just didn’t understand we were going to open presents or if sleep was more important to him. Nonetheless, we were downstairs and opening presents at a decent hour, none of this 5am stuff that some families seem to go through.

What were weren’t expecting was for Oliver to not want to open any presents! He saw his stocking that was filled with goodies from Santa and he opened that. He got 4 or 5 toy cars in it from the movie Cars and that is all he wanted to play with. It even got to the point where Dana and I had opened most of our gifts and Oliver still didn’t want to open any more of his. It was quite humourous as you can see from the video below. That’s Oliver saying: “No Tank You” when we were asking him if he wanted to open another present.

Anyways, once our Christmas morning was all done, were were off to Dana’s Mom and Dad’s for Christmas Day dinner. We were joined by Alison, Arek and Julia. As usual, Oliver had a blast playing with his cousin.

We ate, drank, opened gifts and enjoyed each others company immensely. Christmas time is always such a busy time but when you get to stop and enjoy it for a second, it’s always a lot of fun. I’ve especially enjoyed these last couple of years because there really is nothing like Christmas when you have young kids in the household.

Every year, Dana’s Mom’s side of the family gets together once in the summer for a family picnic and once in the winter for a Christmas party. This year Oliver is at a great age (as you know) for new experiences. So, when Santa paid us a visit at the Christmas party, Oliver just enjoyed himself even more.

The party ever year is always a lot of fun. There is obviously good food and great company, but seeing Oliver simply light up when he saw Santa, well, that was a new experience altogether.

As you can see from the pictures and the video below, we had a great time.

November 30th was fast approaching and Oliver was turning TWO! We put together a small birthday party and had our families over to celebrate. Everything was going great until Oliver starting opening his presents. We mistakenly gave Oliver our present first which was a train set that he really wanted. We knew he would like it, but had no idea that he would like it so much he wouldn’t want to open any more gifts!!! LOL!

So we ended up having to take a break while Oliver opened and set up the train set. Once that was done, we were able to resume with the present opening and Oliver got some wonderful presents from his family.

We had dinner, and then some cake and ice cream. Dana made a coffee cake which was decorated with a winter scene, complete with you guessed it…a train set! He just loves his trains right now.

I wonder what next years thing of choice will be?

Mother’s day every year is a hectic day for us that Connell household. We usually end up trying to cram in as much visiting as possible on this day, which means we are trekking across most of Ontario! This year was no exception as we spent the morning having brunch with Dana’s parents in Woodbridge, and then we headed up to Victoria Harbour to see my parents.

Once again, Oliver was just a doll the entire time – keeping us entertained with his big smiles and wonderful attitude. It can’t be easy for an 18-month old to spend that much time in a car on any given day, but Oliver seems to take it very well. We are very proud of him!

We spent boxing day with Grandma and Grandpaw in Victoria Harbour. It was a good day to eat some more scrumptious food (like we hadn’t had enough from the night before), sit and chat and enjoy each other’s company. Oliver played quite a bit with his Goldfish Crackers, and even took and “indoor sleigh ride” in his new sleigh he got for Christmas. We also had some family visitors. Oliver got to meet his Great Aunt Bev and Great Uncle Guy for the first time, and he played with his cousins Michelle, Bobby and Brittany.
