Oliver loves cars. Period. Exclamation Point. Whatever you want to put after that sentence, it applies. We’re not sure where he gets it from because neither Dana nor I share the same drive (no pun intended) for automobiles. I mean, we like them but we don’t LOVE them the same way Oliver does. But we do like to please our child. So, with that in mind, we ventured down to the Canadian International Auto Show. We actually had a great time. We got there before it got really busy and we were able to leave just before it got crazy. Oliver got to climb in and out of a lot of fun cars/trucks/Jeeps/etc. and I think he had a good time. We also bumped into our good friends Isabelle and Leigh which was a nice treat. Oliver also got his picture taken on a motorbike; hopefully that will be the last time we see him on one of those!

After the show, we were pretty tired so we came home and do what we always do when we are tired: we made popcorn and watched a movie together on the couch. All in all, it was a great day in the Connell household.

Today was Bea & Gabe’s birthday celebration. We went 5-pin bowling and then enjoyed some tasty treats upstairs in the party room. I think Oliver really enjoyed his first time bowling but more importantly, I know he enjoyed spending time with his friends, the twins. Oliver talks about them frequently and always has fun playing with them.

Unfortunately, while trying to teach Oliver how to 5-pin bowl, I tweaked my lower back. It kept me from playing hockey for a couple of weeks and caused much ridicule with my hockey buddies. Note to self: If you tweak your back playing 5-pin bowling, don’t tell hockey players that that’s what you did. Tell them something macho and gruff so they think you’re tough, even though you’re not. LOL!

oliver 365 | volume’s one and two

As you’ve seen from this website, I’ve taken A LOT of photos of Oliver over the past two years. Besides posting the photos to this website, I’ve also created yearly memento’s in the form of coffee-table albums. These albums were given to Oliver for his birthday every year. The goal is to have a library of books to be able to give to Oliver when he is older. Hopefully he will cherish these photos as much as we do and will want to share them with his family, if he chooses to have one of course.

I still believe that the most important thing about photography is to be able to share memories with those you love. Part of that sharing is having a hard copy of the memory. We too often take our precious photos, email them around to each other, post them to facebook and as such, forget about them the next day. We don’t think about the repercussions of having not printed some sort of archive for future generations. When they look back at our time, the future us’s will look at all the broken hard drives and lost emails and see that we have nothing to show for it.

So with that, the Oliver 365 series was created so that it will never happen to Oliver when he is older.

We spent Thanksgiving day at Nana and Grand Dad’s for turkey dinner. Nana makes a mean turkey so this was a happy event for all of us! Auntie Alison, Uncle Arek and cousin Julia were there as well which always makes for a fun time.

We laughed, we ate, we sang and danced and we gorged ourselves on a great feast. We even took a few pictures…LOL! The rest can be found on Flickr here.

Another afternoon at Gage Park for the Connell family! Oliver loves playing in the playground and on the splash pad so how could we resist? We always have a great time and I am always happy to bring along my camera for the ride! LOL!

We went for the petting zoo but stayed for the carnival! I wish I could say that more often but on this morning, it was all that we needed! Chingacousy park has a great petting zoo and we thought we would take Oliver over to pet some animals. What we didn’t know was that there was a carnival in the parking lot! So, we took Oliver on his first merry-go-round, and we tried to go on the “race cars” but the lady wouldn’t let him on because he wasn’t all enough. Of course, the height restriction was the same as the merry-go-round but we weren’t in an arguing mood – we just took another spin on the horses!

We finished the morning with some snow cones and some fun pictures of our green and blue tongues!

For the last two years, the neighbours of the Rosedale, Mill, Isabella area in downtown Brampton have gotten together to throw a Canada Day Street party for all the kids. This includes games, activities, a visit from a firetruck, food, a parade and fireworks. And even though we don’t live on Mill Street North anymore, we are still really close with the people of the neighbourhood so we were asked to join in on the fun again! And boy, did Oliver have fun! He bounced on the trampoline; he played in the bouncy castle; he ate some yummy food, and he enjoyed the fireworks!

Believe it or not, Oliver has been alive for twenty months and we’ve only taken him to get his hair cut twice. TWICE! His second haircut came back in Mid-June as it was just getting way too out of control. It was all scraggly and stringy and looked like Old Man’s hair. It was bad! So, Dana took him over to a local hairdressers for a little trim and wow, did it ever change his face! He looked like a completely different person after his haircut. He is CLEARLY becoming such a little boy.

Day five hundred & sixty-seven saw us take a quick trip up to Mom & Dad Connell’s for the afternoon to celebrate Father’s Day. We only snapped a couple of photos this day, but they’re quite cute so I thought I would share them. We forgot Oliver’s highchair so we went Old School and had him sitting on the Yellow Pages. LOL! He actually seemed to like it! Gosh he is getting big quick!

On this morning, Oliver, Dana and I were goofing around in the living room and Dana captured these fine moments of Oliver and I. It’s not very often that I get my picture taken these days so it’s nice to have a couple of photographs of my son and I.
