Another wonderful afternoon in Gage Park in downtown Brampton, Oliver, Dana and I spent some time walking, running, and playing. Oliver had a couple of firsts this afternoon: (1) It was his first time going down a slide on his own (2) Subsequently, Oliver attempted for the first time to climb back up the slide and (3) It was Oliver’s first time eating weeds, specifically dandelions. Good times were had by all!

Mother’s day every year is a hectic day for us that Connell household. We usually end up trying to cram in as much visiting as possible on this day, which means we are trekking across most of Ontario! This year was no exception as we spent the morning having brunch with Dana’s parents in Woodbridge, and then we headed up to Victoria Harbour to see my parents.

Once again, Oliver was just a doll the entire time – keeping us entertained with his big smiles and wonderful attitude. It can’t be easy for an 18-month old to spend that much time in a car on any given day, but Oliver seems to take it very well. We are very proud of him!

It’s been a while since Oliver and I hung out with the camera. I mean, we took a bunch of pictures on our vacation to Haines City Florida where we visited Nana and Grand Dad and that was great! But Oliver and I used to spend some time, usually in the mornings on a weekend, taking photos. I miss that. I think that as he gets older though, he is less concerned with the camera and more excited about doing things he likes, like eating, climbing on the couch, and playing with his toy trains.

Luckily for me, I was able to capture all those things on this evening in April. Enjoy the photos below.

During one of the first weeks of April, Dana, Oliver and I traveled to Central Florida to visit Dana’s parents at their “winter house.” Oliver’s Nana and Grand Dad live in Florida for six months of the year so we were all super-excited to visit with them. This was also Oliver’s first time on a plane and while he was such a hit with all the other passengers in the airport, he struggled a bit during the flight. It’s tough for a busy 16 month old to stay still on a plane for three plus hours.

During our visit, we spent some time in shopping malls, at the pool, wandering the golf course, and taking fun trips on the golf cart. We had beautiful weather, with only one morning of rain.

Oliver is getting so big now! We took him for his first hair cut at a local hairdressers called Melonhead. Oliver put on his serious face, as you can see from the photos. He was very good during the whole process, finding a new favourite toy: the hammerhead shark. I certainly didn’t realize just how long Oliver’s hair was until I saw the before and after pictures. It was pretty out of control!

We then treated ourselves to some Burger King afterwards! Yum!

Oliver and I like to have fun with the camera. Oliver is still at the stage where he doesn’t really know why I am pointing a big lens to his face, but he will entertain the idea….for a little while at least.

On this day, Oliver and I were watching some of his favourite shows on TV. We were also trying to get a nice shot of him wearing his Scotland jersey that he received for Christmas from our dear friends Paul & Kelly. For those of you that don’t know, Dana and I got married in Scotland and Paul was a taxi-driver.

….seriously!

While we were in Scotland, when we wanted to go somewhere, we called Paul. Paul was chalk full over wonderful information about Edinburgh, the country, and he showed a genuine interest in our lives. He drove us to the castle for our wedding. He picked us up the morning after our wedding, with a bottle of champagne in hand. He even told us that if we ever were to come back to Scotland, that he wanted us to stay with him and his family! Can you believe that?

So fast forward to this year, we receive a nice little package in the mail from Paul and his family – complete with a Scotland jersey for Oliver. We wanted to send a thank you note to them, but include a picture of Oliver wearing the jersey. Hence, the photos taken below.

Sorry for the long story. The pictures just didn’t seem complete unless you knew why we took them.

On this evening, Oliver and I watched the Canada/Switzerland World Junior Hockey Semi-Final. Oliver was given a Team Canada jersey by good friend Jim Coyle when he was born. I just so happen to have one too so we put them on and cheered our boys on together. I snapped a couple of portraits and Dana took a couple of Oliver and I together.

Every once in a while (ok, more often than not), I spend some time with Oliver playing on the floor. What’s different about some of these times is that on occasion, I bring my camera along for the ride. I try to capture Oliver in his natural environment, in his play state. Most of the time, I come away with just a bunch of snapshots but sometimes, I get some images I really like. On this particular occasion, I was able to capture some very moody images of Oliver. I really like the images I’ve made – I hope you will too.

The day after the day after Christmas was supposed to be our Christmas with Oliver’s Nana and Grand Dad. Unfortunately, Nana got sick over the holidays and in the interest of keeping Oliver healthy, Nana stayed back from the festivities. So, Grand Dad came over and celebrated with us for the afternoon. We opened some gifts and had a grand ‘ol time.

Here are a couple of portraits taken of Oliver and his Grand Dad.

We spent boxing day with Grandma and Grandpaw in Victoria Harbour. It was a good day to eat some more scrumptious food (like we hadn’t had enough from the night before), sit and chat and enjoy each other’s company. Oliver played quite a bit with his Goldfish Crackers, and even took and “indoor sleigh ride” in his new sleigh he got for Christmas. We also had some family visitors. Oliver got to meet his Great Aunt Bev and Great Uncle Guy for the first time, and he played with his cousins Michelle, Bobby and Brittany.
