Oliver and I took another visit to Grandma and Papa’s house – this time to celebrate my birthday. It’s been a great winter to head north because for the most part, the roads have been good and it’s nice to escape to some snow! We haven’t had much down here where we live.

So on this weekend, Oliver and I played outside with Grandma and Papa; enjoyed wonderful meals (my Mom certainly knows how to spoil me with food) and overall just had some fun together. We even played some indoor mini-golf! Oliver’s getting really good with his hand-eye coordination. That’s something I’ll definitely promote more of this summer when we can get outside and do some fun activities.

But for now, we’ll just have to stick to making fun photos

For Oliver’s 3rd birthday, Dana and I wanted to redo his bedroom. We knew we had stretched Oliver’s sleeping in a crib for as long as we could. It’s not very often that you hear of toddlers still sleeping in a crib by their third birthday and even though Oliver was still fine with it, we wanted to do something special. We had purchased a frame and headboard the previous month, and we had gotten a new mattress for when the time came to transfer him into a big boy bed. So, the weekend before Oliver’s birthday, we shipped him off to Grandma and Papa’s house so we could make the transformation.

When Oliver came home, he absolutely loved the room and he has transitioned flawlessly into his new bed.

I then went up and spent the day with my Mom and Dad. Since they weren’t going to see Oliver on his actual birthday, we celebrated that day instead. They spoiled him rotten (again) with clothes, matchbox cars, Chuggington trains, a new part of his track, and an awesome dinner and dessert, complete with cupcakes and ice cream. Needless to say, Oliver (and to some extent I) were in heaven!

The photo below is Oliver’s first photo of his Papa. I held the camera for him, he pointed it and pushed the button. I think it’s great!

All in all, we had a great and super productive weekend.

oliver connell | day 721-722

November was a really hectic month around the Connell household. Dana was in full production mode for two craft shows she had in late November and early December and I was still wrapping up a ton of editing from all the photo shoots I was doing. So to give Dana a little breathing room and some much needed alone time, Oliver and I took a trip to Grandma and Papa’s house in Victoria Harbour. It was a great time to get away for a night and Grandma and Papa couldn’t have been happier to have us.

When we arrived, Papa had a surprise for Oliver: a freshly made Race Car Bed! Oliver played in it off and on throughout the day and he had no trouble sleeping in it that evening. I bet if I could have strapped the bed to the roof of my car and took it home with me, Oliver would have been indebted to me forever. But we left it at Grandma and Papa’s house and it will be a special treat every time we go up there.

We spent two days playing, laughing and eating good food. Oliver and I can’t wait to do it again!

Day five hundred & sixty-seven saw us take a quick trip up to Mom & Dad Connell’s for the afternoon to celebrate Father’s Day. We only snapped a couple of photos this day, but they’re quite cute so I thought I would share them. We forgot Oliver’s highchair so we went Old School and had him sitting on the Yellow Pages. LOL! He actually seemed to like it! Gosh he is getting big quick!

Mother’s day every year is a hectic day for us that Connell household. We usually end up trying to cram in as much visiting as possible on this day, which means we are trekking across most of Ontario! This year was no exception as we spent the morning having brunch with Dana’s parents in Woodbridge, and then we headed up to Victoria Harbour to see my parents.

Once again, Oliver was just a doll the entire time – keeping us entertained with his big smiles and wonderful attitude. It can’t be easy for an 18-month old to spend that much time in a car on any given day, but Oliver seems to take it very well. We are very proud of him!

We spent boxing day with Grandma and Grandpaw in Victoria Harbour. It was a good day to eat some more scrumptious food (like we hadn’t had enough from the night before), sit and chat and enjoy each other’s company. Oliver played quite a bit with his Goldfish Crackers, and even took and “indoor sleigh ride” in his new sleigh he got for Christmas. We also had some family visitors. Oliver got to meet his Great Aunt Bev and Great Uncle Guy for the first time, and he played with his cousins Michelle, Bobby and Brittany.

Today is Oliver’s second Christmas. Santa has visited our house yet again and left some wonderful gifts for us all. Oliver’s favourite gift: a bag of Apple Crisps he got in his stocking. Clearly Santa knew what Oliver would like! Mum and Dad spent the rest of the morning opening the other gifts while Oliver ran around the living room with his crinkly bag of Apple Crisps. Ah, all in good fun.

Then it was off to Grandma and Grandpaw’s for more presents and a Christmas dinner. Mom (Grandma) outdid herself once again. We had probably one the juiciest turkey I’ve ever tasted. We had a surprise visitor, my Auntie Karen for dinner and a visit. It was wonderful to see her again.

oliver connell | day seventy-seven

Valentine’s Day. A special day in every couples’ heart. Oliver was two and a half months old at that point and Dana and I hadn’t been out by ourselves since before he was born. So, in an attempt to get a little alone time, Dana and I took Oliver to Grandma’s house in Victoria Harbour for her to babysit while Dana and I went to a movie. Oliver slept the entire car ride up, and didn’t really want to eat when he got there. For those of you that know and love Oliver, you know this is a bit out of character. So, Dana and I leave Oliver alone with Grandma and headed out to see He’s Just Not That In To You (Dana’s choice). We settled in with our popcorn, Swedish Berries, and our Root Beer for what we thought would be a nice two hours. Well, not ten minutes into the movie, I get a call from Grandma saying Oliver has been crying since we left and is pretty hysterical at this point. So, up we get from our seats, lucky enough to get a refund for the tickets, and head back to Grandma’s. Of course, upon our return, Oliver has fallen happily asleep. Happy Valentine’s Day Mum and Dad!

That’s my boy!
